Scars

This is the final post during my month-long hiatus. Things will be going back to normal on Monday. In the mean time, I felt this poem was a beautiful way to bring the month to a close. It’s by poet Kevin Reeve. You can read more of his work at  www.kevinreeve.wordpress.com.

scars

we long to be genuine
to be free of guile
wholly ourselves
shamelessly naked
to love
with no concept of rejection
our scars
are reminders
of every thing
we tried to settle for
each path we wandered down
that was a dead end
a less-than
and came up short
Jesus calls
to give up
every instance
of good enough
for full acceptance of him
each other
ourselves
such sufficiency
terrifies
